ÉCURIE ALLET : Looking forward to a better end of the season, a déclaré Luke Currie

La dernière fois qu’on l’avait vu sur la liste des vainqueurs remonte à la 16e journée lorsqu’il avait conduit Destiny’s Tale et Istiqraar à la victoire. Si les couleurs de son employeur ont brillé lors la 18e journée  par l’entremise de Friday Lunch Club et Jack Flash, tous deux pilotés par Vinay Naiko, en revanche c’était silence radio du côté de Luke Currie. En selle sur pas moins de onze chevaux à l’occasion de ce week-end hippique, l’Australien en a profité pour se remettre sur le droit chemin avec à la clé un beau doublé signé Freedom et Mighty Mars.
C’est un Luke Currie visiblement soulagé que nous avons rencontré à l’issue de la journée dominicale. Revenant sur son petit passage à vide, la cravache australienne reconnaît avoir fait des erreurs dans quelques épreuves, ce qui lui a coûté la victoire en au moins deux occasions selon lui. « But it’s all part of racing you know », a-t-il déclaré, un brin de regret dans la voix.
Nous commentant ses deux victoires du week-end, Luke Currie dira que Freedom était mûr pour la victoire. « His last three outings have been very encouraging and a win was in the pipeline. I however needed to work him a little bit early to make sure he could lead. From there on he relaxed well in front. To be honest, for the time I hadn’t bag a winner, I was not so confident until we rallied the winning post first », a-t-il déclaré. À la question de savoir s’il n’était pas parti trop vite, celui qui avait déjà défendu les couleurs de l’écurie Allet en 2008 dira: « He’s a free-going type of horse and given the fact that he has done most of his work on the treadmill, this has kept him a little bit fresh. Also, I think had I gone slower, this could have made him pulled a little bit and thus not finishing his race well ». Il est d’avis que Freedom est plus efficace sur sprint à Maurice « for he is a little bit too keen for the mile here in spite of the fact that he has won over such a distance in South Africa ».

Le doublé, Luke Currie le réalisa avec Mighty Mars le lendemain dans The Supertote SMS Betting Trophy, sprint court sur un kilomètre. L’alezan, qui n’a pas été ridicule à ses deux précédentes sorties sous la selle de ce même Currie, se montra sous son meilleur jour avec les oeillères. Une victoire qui a fait très plaisir à notre interlocuteur d’autant que Mighty Mars avait de nombreux partisans. « I was a little bit surprised to be in front so easily. But he was just too quick with the blinkers. Vinay, who worked him at the barriers during the week told me that he was very quick with the blinkers. We were hoping for an improvement from his last race where he couldn’t find the necessary speed to hold the spot. I’m very happy to see him back to winning ways ».
Outre ces deux chevaux, Luke Currie avait aussi d’autres belles cartes à abattre lors de week-end mais ne put en tirer le maximum. Il n’est pas passé par quatre chemins pour dire qu’il est déçu de la course d’Istiqraar  qui termina à 10L de Shahruhk dans la 5e course de samedi. « He stumbled out of the gates and on the top of that, he lost touch of the field in the backstraight and he never came back. I think he is a better horse when he can dictate or run close to the place », a soutenu notre interlocuteur.
En revanche, il s’est dit très satisfait de la course de Blue Lord qui se retrouva à 2L de Carson City dans the Tele Plus Trophy. « I actually thought it would be very hard for him to beat those horses from his average draw. On the corner, I thought he stood a chance but unfortunately we had to check with some horses fading in front of us. But still, he finished not far away. He’s definitely on the right path and hopefully he’ll be a winner at his next outing ».
Il s’est dit aussi très satisfait de la course de Silver Flyer dans le Supertote Golden Trophy. « He ran a honest race. He’s another treadmill horse and probably he needed the run. With natural improvement, I think he should be a horse to reckon with in the Maiden », a déclaré l’Australien.
Inviter à commenter ses statisques depuis qu’il a effectué son retour au Champ de Mars, Luke Currie dira: « They are very disappointing. As I told you, I made a few mistakes in some races and it cost me one or two additional winners. But if you look at my stats the last time I’ve been here for Vincent, you’ll notice that over the same period it was pretty much awful as it is actually but towards the end of the season, we restarted having winners. I’m just hoping that to happen again this year ».
