INDIA: Visa on arrival for citizens of Mauritius ?

The Times of India last week-end reported that the Indian government would soon allocate visa on arrival facilities at some airports to citizens of Malaysia, Thailand, Brunei, Spain, France, Germany, Sweden, Russia, Ukraine, Kazaksthan, Brazil and South Africa.
At present visa on arrival facilities by Indian authorities are given to citizens from Finland, Japan, Luxemburg, New Zealand, Singapore, Cambodia, Indonesia, Vietnam, the Phillipines, Laos and Myanmar.
The Indian government is among those which has noticed tourism contributes to immediate income of much needed FDI and it wants to remove bureaucratic hurdles that impede the rapid development of tourism. Tourism is a very good tool for rapid job creation and poverty reduction.
At present most citizens of Mauritius planning to visit India do have to get dropped their passport, two passport size photos, proof of sufficient funds, copy of air booking and a note from the hotel or bona fide person with whom planning to stay, along with the proper complete filling of the intended visa form. If any information is not there, correction is needed or amendments made and then one some other day the passport is picked up and the visa is delivered for free usually on week days, after four p. m.. Most of the time the lines are very long, since many Mauritians travel to India, more so that the national airline is practically daily serving Indian routes and often coming with strategies of promotional airfares.
Out of reciprocity, a strong case can be made for holders of passports from the Republic of Mauritius be given visa on arrival for free at the Indian airports entertaining this facility, provided no abuse and usual documentations are presented on arrival.
These days bona fide Indian nationals with valid reasons to be in Mauritius need no prior visa to come to the country.

THIS IS TO ADD TO WHAT THE AUTHOR WRITES AND ESPECIALLY TO MR KEWAL WHO HAS ADDED A COMMENT.

IN SPITE TO ALL THAT IS SAID AND ALL THAT GOPIO STUFF INDIA HAS ALWAYS BEEN COY AS REGARDS TO ITS RELATIONS WITH PEOPLE OF INDIAN ORIGIN LIVING AND BORN ON FOREIGN SOIL.IT HAS NEVER RECOGNISED INDIANS BORN ABROAD AND WE MUST NOT FORGET PROBLEMS OF INDIANS BORN IN AFRICA AND THE HARDSHIPS THEY WENT THROUGH WHEN AFRICAN COUNTRIES STARTED BECOMING INDEPENDENT AND WERE NOT WILLING TO ACCEPT THEM AS CITIZENS.THEY HAD TO LEAVE BELONGINGS,PROPERTIES ACQUIRED AFTER YEARS AND FIND REFUGE IN OTHER COUNTRIES ESPECIALLY UK.

WE MUST ALSO NOTE THAT INDIA HAS TURNED A BLIND EYE TO PROBLEMS RECENTLY FACED BY PEOPLE OF INDIAN ORIGIN IN COUNTRIES LIKE FIJI,TRINIDAD AND TOBAGO,SURINAM AND OTHERS.ITS MAIN ARGUMENTS WERE THAT THESE PEOPLE WERE FOREIGN CITIZENS AND THUS OF NO DIRECT CONCERN TO IT.AND SECONDLY,IT IS A SECULAR STATE AND THEREFORE COULD NOT LOOK INTO THE PROBLEMS OF A PARTICULAR RELIGIOUS GROUP(HINDUS).

SO BETTER VISA FACILITIES FOR MAURITIANS WOULD BE GREAT AND HIGHLY WELCOME BUT WE MUST NOT EXPECT TOO MUCH.

We have 1/1000th the population of India -- an ever increasing number of direct flights per week to various destinations in India and yet the government of Mauritius has not been able to say "Enough is enough" - we can expect at least the same priviledges that Indians get when they come to Mauritius. We will always be a Banana republic with the current ruling lot.

Well put Raj Ghura. Those Indian bureaucrats deciding upon who should get visa on arrivak in India, should get a kick up their backsite for having excluded Mauritius! They want to force Mauritians of Indian origin to pay for a PIO card,to last ten years and costing 500 US dollars,or there about! Its more about the business of money than origins in the eyes of those miserable bureaucrats!Tourism indeed does help on job creation but that's the least of the concerns of those miserable Indian bureaucrats...which explain the absence of a proper strategy by India to constructively develop its tourism and invest the income earned into clearing the poverty off the Indian streets. As PM Manmohansing complained in a speech given a few days ago to a parterre of Indian and Interbational scientists in New Delhi, about the Indian graduates failing to help their fellow Indians out of of poverty.PM Manmohansing emphasised the fact that Indian Government spends billions in education.science while nothing much has been achieved by the Indian graduates in solving water shortages problems, power distribution, minus frequent power cuts, housing etc. etc.India does suffer from an acute mindset problem!

Mother India should not discriminate against her step children. Bharat must not use non-double taxation as blackmail.
