Lawful sins versus ethical immorality

Is Mauritius in dire need of emotional intelligence ? Any expert in this field, local or foreign will readily support this hypothesis.
After all, in recent weeks a catalogue of totally unacceptable allegations has made the headlines.
Societies norms reflect the values and morality of individuals within it.
. The waste of Rs 197 million over an imaginary bridge is brushed away.
. The tertiary education shame is brushed away until further notice.
. The accumulation of ‘graduates’ joining the unemployment skip is brushed away.
. A multi million road project cracking up is brushed away.
. Unlike the UK another multi million nationality card venture is rammed in.
. Ministry of health ‘reactive instincts’ regulations are rammed in. Sod The Mauritius Medical and Dental Council.
. Future inadequately trained dentists and doctors of medicine, who cares ?
Yet, when I am informed the dead are being ABUSED, I care ! As I await the public response from appropriate, informed, ‘competent’ bodies I reflect on a wonderful turn of phrase whilst listening to the radio – ‘ Liniversite kouyon inn fini’,
The Mental Capacity Act 2005 in England and Wales is based on human rights solely. This document includes DOL, the deprivation of liberty of individuals.
The five principles apply to ALL of us, even the DEAD.
1. A person must be assumed to have capacity unless it is established that he lacks it.
2. A person is not to be treated as unable to make a decision unless all practicable steps to help him to do so have been taken without success.
3. A person is not treated as unable to make a decision merely because he makes an unwise decision.
4. An act done, or decision made, under this Act for or on behalf of a person who lacks capacity must be done or made, in his best interest.
5. Before the Act is done, or the decision is made, regard must be had whether the purpose for which it is needed can be effectively achieved in a way that is less restrictive of the person’s rights and freedom of action.
In a society where written/oral press allegations of Dholl puree servitude and massages at Brown Sequard Hospital are IGNORED, where is the emotional intelligence of Mauritians ?
Shameful really ! And God help psychiatry. Work is ongoing to amend the out of date, archaic Mauritius Mental Health Act. Actually the science will survive, the abuse of the vulnerable I very much doubt will stop.
Laws are made by men. Morality and Ethics are made by generations of emotionally intelligent folks.
Those ‘dead bodies’ were HUMAN BEINGS. Were they mentally capacitous ? Were they deprived of their liberty EVEN IN DEATH ?
Might appear simple. Easy to brush away, ram in, bully etc.
I hope I am not alone to feel shame, disgust and sheer revulsion at the very low moral threshold in Mauritius today within a perceived ‘legally competent’ system.
I see here the lust of money. The loss of norms. Ethics and Morals ? The law of the land rules.
