MARK NEISIUS : Happy with a win but…

C’est un Mark Neisius aux sentiments mitigés que nous avons rencontré à l’issue de la journée de samedi. L’homme n’est pas passé par quatre chemins pour dire qu’il s’attendait à une journée plus fructueuse au vu des belles cartouches qu’il avait au fusil. Au final, ce n’est qu’une victoire qu’il a eue à se mettre sous la dent. Mais notre interlocuteur préfère positiver car cela fait trois semaines consécutives qu’il se retrouve dans le box des vainqueurs.
« It was a sort of mixed bag with a winner one hand and a couple of disappointments on the other », nous a-t-il répondu à la question de savoir si sa journée s’est passée comme prévu. « Obviously I’m happy with a win but I would have been happier with two or even three because I had some decent rides on the card. But that’s racing you know, it does not always go according to plans. »
Au chapitre des déceptions, Mark Neisius cite en premier Spin A Coin. Très chuchoté dans la troisième épreuve étant donné qu’il allait se retrouver seul aux avant-postes, cet élève de Raj Ramdin ne put justifier les bruits favorables entourant sa candidature. Pourtant, tout se déroula comme prévu mais c’est dans la dernière ligne droite que le hongre bai de 6 ans pécha. « He was my main disappointment of the day. Obviously he was not a banker but I really thought he would run a very good race this time. Unfortunately he never had any kick. He hasn’t run for a while may be he needed the run and that this will bring him on, I don’t know but as I said, he was, by far my biggest disappointment of the day », a déclaré un Mark Neisius visiblement très déçu. Spin A Coin, voilà un coursier qui doit être suivi en cette fin de saison.  
Arctic Sun est l’autre cheval qui n’a pas évolué à la hauteur des attentes de Mark Neisius. Bénéficiant pourtant d’un bon rythme dans l’épreuve phare, l’alezan ne put sortir son dash habituel et se retrouva à plus de 6L de Recall To Life à l’arrivée, une contre-performance que n’arrive pas à expliquer Mark Neisius.
En revanche, notre interlocuteur pense que Fyrkat qui, pour la première fois de sa carrière, était aligné sur 1850m, a peut être couru la course de trop. « At the top of that, he dropped the bit at the 800m. »
« Patrick is a guy who understands racing »
Au rayon des satisfactions, c’est bien évidemment Prince Of Wings qui est cité. Ce coursier a démontré que sa victoire sous la selle de Rama fut loin d’être le fruit du hasard car il a remis ça samedi dernier même si au finish, Papa Joe a donné à ses partisans des sueurs froides. « My main objective was to get him settled because he is a horse that has got a tendency to pull. The least that I can say is that he settled nicely. The gap opened for him in the straight and although he hanged in towards the end, he showed guts to score. » Avec 61,5kg sur le dos, n’était-il pas inquiet, d’autant qu’il n’eut pas un parcours de tout repos, surtout dans la ligne d’en face avec Gameloft qui zigzaguait devait lui?  « I was indeed a little bit worried as I think I had about four lengths to make up round the last bend but he did it quite easily. But I won’t hide that the weight got the better of him towards the end, especially in the last 25 metres, that’s why he hanged in. »
Après avoir offert à Swapneel Rama la 100e victoire de sa carrière, Prince Of Wings a écrit à nouveau l’histoire en offrant cette fois à Patrick Merven sa 300e réussite. Une performance que Mark Neisius a tenu à saluer. « It’s quite an achievement of its own, having trained 300 winners. Congratulations to Patrick. He is a good horseman. He knows what he is doing. It’s also nice riding for him because he is a guy who understands racing. You don’t have to get off a horse and explain to him what happens. He can see by himself which is a big advantage for a jockey », a trouvé notre interlocuteur.
Revenant aux chevaux qu’il a montés samedi dernier, Mark Neisius dira que Gida n’a pas démérité face à l’intouchable Max Rapax. « He ran a much better race which is encouraging. I think I put a little too much pressure on him up the first hill but still he ran a very good second. Obviously he still has got something in the legs and hopefully he bags one before the season ends. »
Même s’il n’a pu faire mieux qu’une quatrième place à 5,40L de Catwalk Model dans un lot relativement moyen, Mark Neisius s’est dit satisfait de Bright Shining. Il se dit persuadé que ce coursier n’a pas encore dévoilé tout son potentiel. « I said to Raj that we need now to go a little bit further with him as he is just staying one-paced. Added to that, he has not that initial speed. Maybe we can try him over a 1600m or 1650m. He is a horse that shows us a lot in the morning but who just can’t repeat his work on race days. I think we got to work him out on that. »
