Répondant au député Patrice Armance lors des exercices des questions, mardi 22 mai, le ministre du Transport, Nando Bodha a confirmé que les facilités de “bus pass” pour les étudiants, les personnes âgés et autrement capables « seront étendues avec l’exploitation du Metro Express à partir de septembre 2018 ». « The Government, in line with its philosophy of improving the life of its citizens, will maintain the free travel scheme for the Metro Express Project. Old aged and disabled persons will be allowed to travel free of charge whilst students will be provided with the opportunity of travelling free of charge on the journey between their residence and their educational institution on school days », a-t-il déclaré.
Le ministre a poursuit qu’avec un budget annuel de Rs 1,2 milliard pour assurer le “Free Travel Scheme”, « the compensatory mechanism is being completely re-engineered to make it more transparent and bring in more accountability ». Il a ajouté que « the Metro Express Project is a major infrastructure project that will upgrade and modernise the public transport system in Mauritius. It will provide a safe, reliable, comfortable means of transport that will also reduce travel time for users. »
