For a while, let's forget the cards, roses, perfume, lingerie, chocolates, restaurants, romantic getaways and the billboard adverts about condoms, which I must admit, are pretty tongue-in-cheek (pun intended). Yes, Valentine's Day is in the air. However, let's brush aside the lovey-dovey ones for a moment, shall we ? After all, it's up to them to decide how to spend their bucks. No-one's actually coercing them, nor holding a gun to their temples, to compel them to buy frilly little products or expensive ones. Matter of choice, of course !
It's perfectly understandable that some singletons might feel a bit excluded while others will get on with their lives, as usual. And that's the spirit. Life goes on and everyone should be able to make the most of it. And rather than letting Valentine's Day dampen your mood, just have a blast. The radio and TV channels will be bombarding you with romantic programmes all day long but don't lose hope ! The opportunities are there, lonely souls. Just grab them ! Make the most of the bargains, even if you don't celebrate. Some might argue that Valentine's Day is nothing but a materialistic, consumer-focused festival. Fair enough. But singletons could actually benefit judiciously.
Feeling like some clothes, perfume, cosmetics and accessories ? Just ignore the loved-up couples and take everything in your stride. If you spot any Valentine's discounted item that takes your fancy, go for it. Feel like a glamorous star, smell fabulous and walk on confidently ! Want to feel sexy ? Go spoil yourself in the lingerie stores. Make your heart happy ! Feeling hungry ? Just order one of these special Valentine's Day romantic meals, where you eat more for less and fool the waiter under the impression that your date will come to join in a bit. Then, quietly settle your bill and leave, once you are done. Dessert ? No worries ! Chocolates, in all shapes and sizes will be on sale. Just indulge ! Experience the warm, tantalizing, aromatic and heavenly taste of melting chocolate in your mouth ! Feeling like something to cuddle to, in anticipation of the long, wintery months ? You can get yourself cute, plush, cuddly toys. Of course, size will depend on individual taste ! Roses will be too ridiculously expensive anyway, so it might be wise to buy some the next day, if you wish to brighten up your home. And the list goes on.
So, you see, Single Souls. It is difficult to annihilate the consumerist Valentine's Day system. But to beat it effectively, be part of it and use it to your full advantage. At least, you won't have to go through the hassles of worrying if you've got the right gift, doing the right thing or finding enough time off your busy schedule to go on a Valentine's Day date. You will be pleasing yourself, no-one else. Is there any better thing than personal satisfaction, when you've managed to get yourself a good bargain ?
