TRANSPORT EN COMMUN : 350 employés de l’UBS aux urnes à 12h30

La série de votes au sein du secteur du transport en commun se poursuit en ce début de semaine en faveur d’actions industrielles, soit une grève. Depuis ce matin, c’est au tour des employés de l’United Bus Service (UBS) de Forest-Side de se présenter devant les urnes à cet effet. Selon les dernières indications, à 12h30, quelque 350 employés avaient déjà participé au scrutin. « Malgré le temps pluvieux et venteux, les travailleurs se déplacent massivement pour passer aux urnes. Le scrutin se poursuivra jusqu’à 14h et reprendra demain. Le dépouillement des votes pour l’UBS se tiendra dans le courant de l’après-midi de demain », déclare Ashok Subron, un des animateurs de l’Union of Bus Industry Workers (UBIW).
L’autre développement intervenu dans ces profonds désaccords entre le ministre du Travail et des Relations Industrielles Shakeel Mohamed et les représentants de l’UBIW au sujet de l’application des recommandations du NRB, avec une hausse salariale, est une correspondance adressée au Premier ministre Navin Ramgoolam et au leader de l’opposition Paul Bérenger. Dans ce courrier, les dirigeants de l’UBIW émettent, entre autres, de sévères critiques à l’encontre du ministre Shakeel Mohamed : « We are afraid to state that the UBIW is of view, that the way the Minister is acting is tantamount to inflicting a ‘collective punishment’ to transport workers, due to the spontaneous CNT employees strike of June 2013. A strike, which as explained above, was precisely the product of the non-respect of social dialogue and collective bargaining principles. »
Dans la conjoncture, le corps syndical fait appel aux deux leaders politiques pour décanter la situation. « The UBIW calls on you, as Prime Minister, to after discussion with the Leader of the Opposition, in all your wisdom, to do justice to the 8 000 transport employees and their families. We call on the government to enforce the minimal remuneration, as recommended by the NRB, by way of Remuneration Regulation. Should there be potential legal challenge (which as explained above is invalid according to our view) by the employer, the burden of the challenge should rest on the shoulder of the employers. Should there be any financial impediment, the UBIW calls on the government to take on board our proposition to use the funds under the control of the STC, to at one go ensure a fair remuneration to transport employees and a good transport service to the public. » Les syndicalistes ajoutent : « In a spirit to find a reasonable settlement to the present crisis looming ahead, due to the mis-management by the Minister of Labour, the UBIW is prepare to withhold any industrial and trade union action, after the completion of the transport secret ballot exercise. »
