I have a confession to make. I’m finding it increasingly difficult to keep pace with the political news in Mauritius. It seems that not a day goes by without a further twist in one or more political tales that are currently making the headlines. 

J’ai lu avec beaucoup d’intérêt l’article paru dans l’édition du Mauricien de samedi dernier sous le titre « Automobile : Motivations financières pour réduire l’émission de CO2 ». Je souhaite y apporter quelques éléments d’information en complément à ce qui est suggéré comme un débat passionnant autour du type de motorisation automobile à prescrire dans l’intérêt écologique et économique de notre pays, île durable en devenir.

“A guide to the whales and dolphins of Mauritius” is the title of a booklet released by the Mauritius Marine Conservation Society last week. This work intends to create awareness among the public at large about cetaceans, [whales and dolphins], their habitat, their importance and the photographs used are meant to identify each mammal.

See, its Chief Executive is not happy that the rupee did not stay at the level of a few years ago.

Let me thank Mr Assad Bhuglah for reading my article on Dr Seegobin with a lot of interest [What about Idrice Goomany ? – 27/09/11]. Although at first sight, the title of my article (first part) may seem to be an aberration yet, in the third paragraph, I have cleared it by giving a sub-title

Ne nous laissons pas décourager par ce qui pourrait paraître comme une obscurité technique de faux-semblants ou nous morfondre sans cesse par la stratégie appropriée et absolument légale pour essayer de résoudre cette énigme MedPoint.

Serait-il possible que les journalistes tous médias confondus à Maurice recentrent le débat et nous donnent une vision approfondie et « balancée » du débat sur l’interruption médicale de grossesse ?

Dimanche 24 avril 2011 : je lis dans L’Express Dimanche avec délectation l’interview de Reza Issack, actuel député et ancien maire de Port-Louis, la réflexion qui suit  : « Quand le MSM et le Ptr s’allient, l’unité de la communauté hindoue se fait.  Politiquement, c’est important de construire ce bloc.

Notre petite île a vu passer un certain nombre de tempêtes ces derniers temps. L’une d’elles est incontestablement l’affaire MedPoint.

In 1934 Dr. Seegobin started writing a series of articles on public health in Hindi Language. They were published serially in the Arya Vir that was edited by Pt. Cashinath Kistoe. The first instalment appeared on 3rd August 1934 and the last on 15th February 1935. There were twenty-two instalments in all, and the doctor had thrown light on twenty-five common ailments that had been affecting the life of the poor people in this Island. They were written in simple Hindi, meant to be read by people who were living in dire misery, without having access to medical facilities in cases of chronic diseases and in emergency cases. It is to be noted that most of the Indian workers living in rural areas could not utter a word in creole in those days. It is for them that Dr. Seegobin had written those articles.
