It is the government's aim to increase foreign investments and one way of achieving that is by providing tax benefits to companies and providing ease of access to them to successfully do business. Research and development is one sector we need to have competent tax regimes to motivate multinational companies to base their R&D activities.

En tant que femme, j'ai le droit de vivre et le droit de faire des choix. Si je choisis de donner vie, c'est mon droit… au même titre que celui que j'ai de ne pas le faire. Dans ma propre vie, j'ai été confrontée aux deux choix… et dans les deux cas, ce sont deux décisions différentes qui se sont imposées.

The abortion debate on radios, internet or newspapers seem to be provoking a lot of passion but very little reason. I find it unfair and unjust that some people seem to insinuate that the female community, especially young girls are loose, sleep everywhere,  get pregnant and now will find it easy to have an abortion. It’s as if women are the sole responsible parties for their pregnancy. Where are the men? It is also incorrect to believe that women gladly run for an abortion each time they not wish to carry a pregnancy through.

The Mecca of corporate networking is the seminar. People meet, ‘work’ collectively for hours or days on themes that they are not likely to ever come across in their professional careers, they lunch together and try to bond over something…anything for that matter.

A child is a gift of god and we are all very concerned about child wellness but are we all courageous enough to adopt a disabled child? Let’s be genuine to ourselves, many of us won’t because we know how much responsibility and sacrifice it entails.This does not make us less compassionate human beings.

Respecting womens rights and encouraging safe abortions has direct implications for the achievement of the MDG3 on gender equality. We, the young women of the Institute of Social Development and Peace/Students of the University of Mauritius, are worried that the current debate on abortion can lead to unnecessary conflicts, and divide the nation further.  We are going through very challenging times; we therefore need to steer clear from all conflicts so that we harness our energies and resources to move our beautiful and peaceful nation forward.
