Mauritius is among a handful of other countries in the region - including Kenya, Seychelles, Tanzania and the Maldives - that have signed agreements with the European Union and the UK to accept suspected pirates from Somalia for prosecution and trial.

The country has seen increased number of protests by pressure groups and hardly any response by the Government who does not give a hoot about your toot, your shout, your scream, your lament, or your pain.
May be your grief or your suffering is equal to your sins. This was a crystal clear explanation given by an extremely learned Prime Minister. May be not ; let us look at it from another angle :-

Around a third of the entire world’s PC software is counterfeit, according to latest figures from the International Data Corporation (IDC), and in Africa, piracy rates range from around 50% in Mauritius to over 90% in Zimbabwe. Despite these provocative statistics, many people remain unaware of the danger of counterfeit software. But from large corporations to startups, the public sector to consumers, no one is immune to the pitfalls of using unlicensed software - as the effects trickle in to the entire economy. Education is critical to informing citizens of the risks, and governments and the private sector have a key role to play in informing consumers and introducing effective legislation to curb piracy.

Persisting with a coal-dominated energy pathway will lock the country into an everlasting coal energy future, with negative impacts in terms of pollution, health hazards and dependency on costly fuel imports. Also, the diversity of concerns and potential of all the islands of the Republic will not be addressed, and the MID target of 35% electricity generated from RE by 2025 will not be met.

It’s 8 am Sunday morning over there, in grand midsummer weather as in Mauritius; in Montreal, light snow falls endlessly and it’s minus 12 degrees C.
The circus of Heads of State pouring crocodile tears and piling flowers on Mandela’s body, in the Jo’burg stadium five days ago, is over.

It is internationally well documented that Electronic Voting  Machines EVMs are prone to inconsistencies, and can be tampered both externally by hackers and internally by insiders. The more advanced Technology progresses the more vulnerable cyber hacking has become.

« I’m really happy to be back. Mauritius feels like my second home. I have heard good things about OMG so I’m looking forward to another crazy party this week-end », dit-il.

Mauritius has transformed from a predominantly agricultural economy, mainly hinged on the sugar production to a diversified economy structured around textile exports and tourism and, later around financial services. Offshore sector is among the financial services, which has been developed quite fast in Mauritius recently.

Culture as basis
When it came to choosing my HSC subjects, the then school mistress made it clear that if anyone wanted to get ahead of the game they should choose the Sciences or Economics. I chose all Humanities subjects, my passion lying in the human and cultural aspects of all experiences.  The perception of the value of the Humanities has changed since the late 1980s. Internationally, research trends tend towards a mixed approach of the quantitative and qualitative even in some fields which had until recently been associated purely with ‘scientific’ methodologies.

Replying to a private notice question from the Leader of the Opposition on 22 November 2013, the Deputy Prime Minister (DPM) and Minister of Public Utilities has emphatically affirmed that there will be no power blackout in Mauritius in 2013 and 2014. However, an analysis of the figures given by the DPM to support his assertion reveals that there is a real possibility of a power blackout in the country in 2015.

Not many U.S. ambassadors to Mauritius write books about their experiences serving the United States in the Indian Ocean region. But former ambassador John Price has filled 600 pages with interesting and often surprising anecdotes and observations about his time representing U.S. interests in Mauritius, Seychelles and Comoros from 2002-2005, and more generally about what he sees as the future for sub-Saharan Africa. Published by the University of Utah Press in 2011, When the White House Calls offers a view of the daily duties of an ambassador, including details of official meetings with Mauritius officials and constant communiqués with Washington, and other intricacies of diplomacy.
