Hamdi Ulukaya, founder of yoghurt business Chobani, has been awarded Ernst & Young World Entrepreneur of the Year 2013. Ulukaya, who travelled to America from Turkey in 1994 to study English and business, viewed America as an emerging market when it came to yoghurt. «The yoghurt market here was full of sugar, full of preservatives. It’s not the yoghurt I grew up with in Turkey – I don’t know how you call it yoghurt. A business should have its purpose, and if it does, it can make a really big impact.

Freedom of the press is a sine qua non for the welfare of any society. Rules, legislations and laws stipulate that it is a basic human right that enfolds freedom of speech, assembly, thought and expression. Without the freedom of the press, the society in general and the public will be in an obscure state of ignorance and confusion. In spite of the fact that efforts are being made vigorously on the international scene to safeguard the freedom of the press, violations and attacks are still being perpetrated daily not only against the press, but also against journalists who often put their lives at stake in order to disseminate information and propagate truths. The freedom of the journalist in concurrence with that of the press is initiating debates worldwide and especially in countries where totalitarianism is established.

Travelling in towns and villages of Mauritius is a recurrent feature to come across haleem-dealers in street-corners.  Haleem is so well entrenched in the Mauritian tradition that it prominently features in the menu cards or display-boards side by side with boulette chinois and rasson.  Overpowered by the spell of the spicy flavour and savoury taste that keeps the sense of gourmandise high, very few people pay attention to the origin of haleem or ever care to know how it was introduced in Mauritius.
