"Tokyo manages to do something no other global metropolis can: provide a great quality of life for those who live there and also visit. From culture to security, food to courtesy, it has everything covered," says global affairs magazine Monocle. Not only are convenience aka "combini" stores found on almost any corner, they provide healthy meals, ticket concierge (transportation, entertainment, sports – you name it!), and best of all, takkyubin, a delivery service allowing travellers to send their luggage to destinations or the airport in advance.

The tradition of Iftaar (fast-breaking) must surely rank as one of the world’s greatest social events of people coming together.  During the month of Ramadan, Muslims fast, pray and celebrate together while also trying to be thoughtful and generous to friends and family, but especially to the needy and poor.  It is a month of warmth, compassion and generosity.  Notwithstanding the intense spiritual values embodied by Ramadan, it is the popular tempo, the folklore and cultural traditions, marked by the vibrant atmosphere of Iftaar that mostly attract the attention of the outside public.

Dear Authorities,

Mauritius is an Island of intrigue. The clear turquoise Indian Ocean hugs the palm-strewn white beaches. Friendly warm smiles invite thousands of tourists from around the world to explore the coastal towns and inland villages between the sea and the many emerald green Sugar Cane fields. To appreciate and savor the flavors of Island dishes, refresh and restore mind and body before heading back to our own residential homes abroad.

By the definition that we give to politics in Mauritius, I speak from a non-political position, away from the pettiness of partisan politics. By the Greek meaning of politics, then my every word is deeply political as it is seeped with a concern that the management of the city has to be geared towards the well being of ALL its inhabitants. Smart Mauritius is at the moment a concept that is generating fiery debate, and it should because it raises matters of ownership (land, public money, infrastructure, economic and political power, our future).

Introduction
The Truth and Justice Commission submitted its six volume report (four in hard copy and two in soft copy) to the President of the Republic of Mauritius on the 25 November 2011 , containing, amongst other things, some three hundred recommendations. Since then until December 2014, the previous government set up a few committees with the declared intention to study the report and either to study further the land issue and to make recommendations thereof or to allegedly make a selection of the recommendations contained therein with a view to implement them. Now in the year 2015, we have never been informed of any serious feedback from these committees, in which a political party currently in government was closely involved. It appears, in the end, that the setting up of those committees was an eyewash.

In the discours-programme the government had announced that hot meal will be given to pupils of primary schools. Following this proposal it was given to believe that Mr. Lutchmeenaraidoo, Minister of Finance would disseminate this information to the public during his budgetary speech. Anyhow, after probing this issue we will come to realize that the sum injected in this project will be astronomical and not to mention the waste it will imply.

The new Lepep Government’s budget has, according to Minister Lutchmeenaraidoo’s own speech, four important aims. Yet, shockingly, none of these aims is backed up by any programmatic measures in the Budget. Instead, the Minister quite blatantly tricks us.

The world is a strange place, and the Human Being, no doubt the weirdest animal of all. Did I say ‘animal’? I meant ‘creature’… Yes, an uncanny creature that will not hesitate to hold the whole universe responsible for his own idiocy.

These days, a lot is being said about stray dogs, those ‘pests’ which some want to exterminate, by hook or by crook.

Dr Navin Ramgoolam’s latest ambition is to become a 7 year term President with executive powers, a privilege enjoyed by two of his close friends namely President Ali Bongo of Gabon and President Denis Sassou Nguesso of the Republic of Congo. The South African President holds office for a period of 5 years while his United States counterpart has a term limit of 4 years. In September 2000, the French voted for a constitutional amendment to shorten the length of the presidential term from 7 to 5 years.

The world today is facing a great moral and spiritual crisis. Values have vanished. Hanging high on our heads are sins with no means of atonement. The hatred in our hearts is so strong, so deep-rooted and so hot that the boiling cauldron is explosing. The result is war when what humanity needs is peace. The result is hatred when humanity needs love, the result is bullets when humanity needs food. People who can pray are praying, people who can persuade are persuading, people who can meditate are meditating, each contributing in their own way.

The recurrent fight since ages of our Ministry of Agriculture, lately restyled to care for Food Security also, has been to increase food production. Tragically, we have not reached self-sufficiency, let apart export capacity, in most of the items we are cultivating.

Tragically, we have not reached self-sufficiency, let apart export capacity, in most of the items we are cultivating. I was wondering why until I wrote to the Irrigation Authority and the MoA for permission to use the Midlands water piped that serve my region and the curt, short-hand, negative rebuff I got through caesarian practiced by the PMO.

Fellow Mauritians, brothers and sisters around the globe,

It is a known fact that fighting dishonesty, fraud and trying to promote equity is not appreciated by the ones benefitting from corruption practices. But it is also a fact that the question "what is to be done?" remains banging in the mind of every human longing for a better world. Each and every soul that suffers the cruelty, greed and machiavellism of this corrupted system have minds hungering for new answers to this age old question ... WE are all tired of the false promises of politicians and bureaucracy. This disappointment resonates all around the world and the only response politicians and elites have to offer to this global situation is to apply more and more force against global citizens who long for a free world ... Injustice is being openly and widely practiced by those who claim and cling to the power which was never theirs, ruling over lands as if they were half gods. It is like a veil being spread open to cover the whole planet and stealing our human dignity. Most of the time people fighting this injustice are people with no money, no generous donors, they have no business plan but what they have is the notion of right and wrong, freedom and oppression, intelligence and hearts that beat for truth and justice. It is a choice, to be free and not to be brutally smashed by a totalitarian world order. But all the qualities such people bear will be useless until we organise our parents, our communities, women and youth, professionals and workers in the factories and shops. We all have to understand that it affects even our "bread and butter" issues.

Madiba, a symbol in the struggle for human dignity and freedom once reminded us that, “Overcoming poverty is not a task of charity; it is an act of justice; like slavery and Apartheid, poverty is not natural; it is man-made, and it can be overcome and eradicated by the actions of human beings.”

Generations are being entangled in a web of silence while facing a storm; the intersection between the economic, energy, fuel, food and climate crises. Humans striving for human survival are facing humans driven by human greed. I see the rising tide of corruption and the nexus of political and economic elites throttling aspirations and robbing the next generation of hope. Yes, we have to change the world. Changing the world has never been such a responsibility, it has become the one true thing that deserves to be called a "justified obligation".

We will have to be courageous and fearless in order to correct the mistakes made by generations before us before it's too late and the time is now! It is a duty written in our blood that our flesh and bones need to embrace a more caring and just world, and we need to fight for it. This generation is one of the most interconnected in the history of mankind. Any citizen can be a whistleblower, an unstoppable tsunami! Let us bring the limelight of transparency to all the dark corners where the crooked have locked our freedom and truth. Let us sweep aside the veil of corruption and dark secrecy that prevents us from breathing the fresh air we deserve. Each generation has it's own struggle and our's is calling. Past generations of freedom fighters and protectors of mankind have struggled for voice and now is the time to honour them, "MAKE YOUR VOICE HEARD"! Let’s be responsible, let’s make it possible !!! We are ...

As  the world’s centre of gravity rotates back sooner than later to China, what a different world map we will all be already  watching. The days of a divided nation perpetually ravaged by internal fights, quarrels, local  and  external wars are long over.  The archaic and monarchic rule for centuries by dynasties and  emperors  who were easily  corrupted  by  obscure  forces  asking  for  favours  and  obtaining  treaties  are also gone forever. No more the decadent  picture of a permissive society  of  concubines, food  and  wine  festival, games  and opium  parties  for those who hold and have power.
