Elle rappelle qu’en juillet 2011, la Competition Commission of Mauritius (CCM) avait recommandé la libéralisation du prix du ciment et soutient que celle-ci « has got the direct responsibility vis-à-vis the consumers to initiate action for Government to reconsider its position. »
Jayen Chellum affirme également qu’aucune transparence n’existe au niveau du Petroleum Pricing Committee. Dans le passé, dit-il, l’Automatic Pricing Mechanism APM « which met every month was communicating the various information (prices, import levies, VAT) to the public albeit everything was controlled by the Director of the STC, which we found inacceptable. » L’ACIM demande que le Petroleum Pricing Committee communique toutes les données des prix au public, de façon à ce qu’on soit au courant « of the real revenue that has accrued to government through the PPC. »
L’ACIM a adressé une lettre au ministère du Commerce et de la Protection des consommateurs, une autre au ministère de l’Industrie et du Commerce et une troisième au Directeur exécutif de la Competition Commission de Maurice. L’association « kindly and urgently requests Government to reconsider the policy of liberalising the market which has been a failure and reintroduce price control. The Competition Commission in Mauritius in its report, Study of the market for cement in Mauritius last year observed that until new entry, there is more a case of retaining price control. These conditions were not met. There is no new entry. ACIM had predicted an increase in the price of cement, which is what has happened on two occasions. »
