ÉCURIE FOO KUNE : Love Struck-Foo Kune, double Win !

L’écurie Foo Kune ne pouvait rêver de meilleur final. Au terme de sa brillante victoire dans The AfrAsia Duke Of York Cup, Love Struck a fait d’une pierre deux coups puisqu’il a non seulement offert sa première victoire classique à son établissement mais a aussi mis fin au peu de suspense qui restait pour l’attribution du titre d’écurie championne.
La fin justifie les moyens, dit-on souvent. Il semblerait que cet adage sied parfaitement à l’écurie Foo Kune, de par l’investissement massif dans des  coursiers de valeur depuis la création de l’établissement en 2011. Cette année encore, Paul Foo Kune a sorti le chéquier afin de faire l’acquisition de deux étoiles montantes du turf, à savoir Roman Manner et Love Struck. Et c’est justement par l’entremise de ce dernier qu’est venue la consécration. Précédé d’une énorme réputation, ce sujet de Kahal a choisi le meilleur moment pour briller après des performances below expectations cette saison.
« Like Bud said, it is honestly a stable affair. Everyone has put his part with this horse. It’s always very difficult in these bigger races but it just worked out for me. I got into a beautiful position and when I asked him the question at the top of the straight, he really gave me all he had. Well done again to the whole stable who has always been there for this horse. We’ve done a lot of work on him to get him to settle and understand what racing is about. It’s a good achievement », devait se réjouir Sherman Brown à l’issue de la journée.
Love Struck s’était effectivement montré très caractériel depuis son arrivée à Maurice et le Sud-Africain est d’avis que le travail a finalement porté ses fruits.
« Everything went the right way for us despite the bad draw. It was maybe easier with the scratching of Albert Mooney but we went into the race hoping for the best. Had the horse been in the race, it might have been a different result but at the end of the day our horse put his best foot forward to win the race. Love Struck was a very expensive buy for the yard and I’m glad he’s shown his true colours », a-t-il poursuivi.
The Computer Man signait du coup son premier succès dans une épreuve classique, lui qui s’était auparavant distingué dans The Tote Golden Trophy Cup en 2006 avec Cavendish pour le compte de l’écurie Rameshwar Gujadhur.
« We mean business »

Un peu plus tôt dans la journée, l’écurie Foo Kune avait déjà annoncé la couleur grâce aux triomphes de Lake Geneva et Rum Tum Tugger. Absent de la compétition depuis presque deux mois, Lake Geneva tentait le difficile pari de revenir sur le kilomètre mais l’alezan s’en est très bien tiré, aidé en grande partie par le bon rythme imposé par Man Of His Word, son compagnon d’écurie. L’alezan n’était d’ailleurs pas un parfait inconnu pour son cavalier qui l’avait piloté dans son pays d’origine.
« I won with Lake Geneva in Cape Town. When I arrived at the stable, I rode him and he ran a good second over a little bit further. The 1000 metres was always going to be a question mark for him in terms of the distance but he really showed his true colours today. There was a good pace in the race and when I asked him a question, he ran on very well to win », dira le Sud-Africain.
Battu par The Pieman le 4 octobre dernier, Rum Tum Tugger a cette fois fait mouche dans une valeur inférieure. Bien qu’il avait le handicap contre lui, c’est au courage que l’alezan est allé chercher sa troisième victoire cette saison, si l’on se fie aux dires de son cavalier.
« A good draw is paramount here. Rum Tum Tugger had 61.5 kgs today but he’s a big horse and he can carry the weight. They went with a very good pace in the race. I was travelling well, I was in a box seat and all he had to do was get into a nice split. They made him work with his weight, so I think this win was full of merit ».
Avec le titre maintenant acquis, on pourrait croire que l’écurie Foo Kune lèverait le pied lors des cinq journées restantes mais Sherman Brown ne l’entend pas de cette oreille.
« My job’s not completed, I’m here to ride winners till the end of the season. I did not come just to win this race, I’ve come here to do my best for Paul with whom I have a very good relationship and long may that continue.  I’m satisfied with the three wins and a couple of places. We’ve gone out there and shown the people that we mean business, that we’re here to win races and that’s what we’ll keep on doing till the end ».
