Dans le cadre du combat contre le Covid-19, la Confédération des Travailleurs des Sec- teurs Public et Privé (CTSP) a transmis, vendredi, une lettre au Premier ministre, Pravind Jugnauth, dans laquelle elle demande la mise sur pied d’un Universal Minimum Wage. Il souligne qu’avec l’utilisation accrue des outils informatiques, il y aura des pertes d’emploi massives, en particulier dans le secteur manufacturier. Au point où vont les choses, les employeurs finiront par remplacer les travailleurs par des robots ou encore délocali- ser leurs opérations, laisse entendre cette instance syndicale.
« We proposed the introduction of the Universal Minimum Wage concept at international level which to our opinion should be 65% of the me- dian income. Mauritius as an influent member of the African Union can at international level market the concept at continental level. This will prevent delocalization of business on the basis of exploitation of very cheap labour. The proposal of the CTSP will ensure every worker at the lower rung of the wage hierarchy will be paid a decent basic wage, in every country of the world which opens itself to foreign direct invest- ment », souligne le président de la CTSP dans la lettre. Il souligne que c’est particulièrement le secteur des services qui va dorénavant pratiquer la politique de “work from home’, ce qui fait que les employeurs vont saisir l’occasion de réduire le coût opérationnel des entreprises. « The services sector after Covid-19 will undoubtedtly shift on work from home. They will not miss the opportunity to reduce cost and put the onus on the worker to ensure their own health and safety compliance at work ».
Pour lui, il craint fort que le secteur privé fasse maintenant faire pression pour faire amender la loi régissant le Portable Retirement Gratuity Fund. « The Private sector will not spare any effort to amend the Portable Retirement Gratuity Fund to reduce the compensating amount for years of service. Like in 2008, they will not hesitate to socially blackmail (vers larm crocodile) Government with the threat of massive loss of jobs. They cannot pretend to act in the interest of the Country when they are the only ones to decide and then impose on us ».
Les co-signataires de cette lettre, Reaz Chuttoo et Jane Ragoo, secrétaire général, soulignent qu’il est urgent d’assurer une distribution équitable des revenus des entreprises. Ils pro- posent en cette période de force majeure un ratio en termes de paiement
de salaire. « The CTSP firmly believes that there is an urgent need to agree on a proper income distribution at enterprise level. We propose that during this period of Force Majeure and until we have achieved social economic and environmental sutainability wage ratio in all enterprises of 1 to 10, i.e the wage of a worker at the lowest ladder is 10 times less to the highest post in the enterprise be agreed between stake- holders”. Ils demandent au Premier ministre de convoquer une réunion pour discuter de la situation dans le pays.
