PARLEMENT DU PEUPLE – Interpellations citoyennes: questions au Premier ministre

Members of Club des Militants would like to wish all our parliamentarians a ‘bonne rentrée ».
The Honourable leader of the opposition kick started with the famous Medpoint deal. Of course, the matter is under investigation and the Prime Minister very smartly got away with not answering the questions. One cannot access cabinet papers of that day, but one can certainly ask the following question: Can the Prime Minister confirm if he was chairing the cabinet on that day and whether he was the one who gave his final approval to the purchase of the Medpoint clinic?
Surely, this question can easily be answered by our honourable Prime Minister!
To celebrate the much awaited start of the parliamentary season, Club des Militants brings forward a few more questions to the Honourable Prime Minister.
1. Durée de la nouvelle session parlementaire : le Parlement a repris ses activités avec la lecture du nouveau discours-programme. La question que tout démocrate doit se poser : les représentants du peuple seront au travail pour combien de temps avant les prochaines vacances prononcées par le Chef du Gouvernement, étant entendu qu’une prérogative n’est pas un droit arbitraire?
2. The state of our hospitals: Can the Prime Minister confirm when appropriate and emergency resources will be allocated to some of our main hospitals, such as Victoria Hospital in Candos?
3. Hypothèse de croissance : Le Premier Ministre peut-il indiquer à la Nation son hypothèse du taux de croissance pour son nouveau programme politique ? La Banque mondiale, institution internationale respectable, prévoit un scénario de croissance de 1,7 % pour 2012, ce qui signifie, sur le plan économique, un ralentissement considérable de l’activité.
4. Diego Garcia : Le Premier ministre avait choisi voilà plus d’un an de poursuivre la Grande-Bretagne devant un Tribunal d’arbitrage pour que celui-ci se prononce sur la Zone Marine Protégée aux alentours des Chagos. Qu’en est-il de cette procédure ?
5. La zone exclusive Jin Fei : Can the Prime Minister inform us when the Zone Jin Fei will be fully operational and whether any work has started over there?
6. Freedom of Information : Qu’en est-il de l’accès aux documents et informations non-divulgués du gouvernement ? Avec la présentation d’un nouveau programme de son gouvernement, le PM peut-il confirmer s’il a l’intention d’introduire le “Freedom of information Act” dans un souci d’élargir notre plate-forme democratique et qui ferait aussi la promotion d’une transparence accrue, et d’une meilleure gestion de l’argent public?
7. Sugar Industry : Can the Prime Minister reassure the nation that the money allocated to the sugar cane planters (Rs2.6 bn as per 2011/12 budget) has been distributed to the latter and can the PM, on behalf of the Minister of Agro Industry and Food Security, outline the various measures that have been undertaken to protect the declining sugar industry?
8. Le licenciement d’un artiste-animateur à la MBC : Le Premier ministre peut-il indiquer à la Nation les raisons fondamentales du licenciement d’un artiste-animateur de la Mauritius Broadcasting Corporation, en l’occurrence Nitin Chinien, sans invoquer de faux prétextes ? Son licenciement relèverait-il d’une chanson de l’artiste très critique à l’encontre du régime ?
9. One Laptop per Child (OLPC) : It is almost 2 years that this government took office, however the OLPC project has not been triggered yet! Will the PM outline the planning, optimization and setting up program of his Govt on this key public infrastructure project? If the OLPC project “est voué à l’échec”, can the PM provide a shortlist of what measures he intend to take for the promotion of computer literacy among our children and in particular those at grassroot level ?
10. L’insécurité grandissante : Le Premier ministre peut-il indiquer à la Nation le nombre de crimes commis sur notre territoire ces douze derniers mois et si ces chiffres représentent une augmentation considérable du taux de la criminalité ? Quelles sont les mesures qu’il compte prendre en tant que ministre de l’intérieur pour accorder plus de sécurité aux mauriciens et touristes dans leur vie quotidienne ?
11. Rs 500,000 school funds : In his budget of 2011/2012, the Hon. Minister of Finance allocated Rs 500,000 of funds per school. This money was to be used to improve the infrastructure of schools which are in a bad state. Can the Prime Minister also confirm which schools will be the next beneficiaries of these funds?
