I thought Nooresh had a hard act to follow if he wanted to emulate Karis scoring a win at his first ride. As he got here on Monday when the handicaps were already out, he got only one ride and it turned out to be an unproven unraced two-year-old, Majestic Moments for trainer Patrick Shaw. But Nooresh didn’t let that one opportunity go begging. He showed great composure during the race, mindful not to rush such a young horse around and the horse responded well to his riding to get there in the nick of time, beating his more-fancied stablemate Troppo Forte who was ridden by someone who is no stranger to Mauritius, Melbourne Cup-winning jockey Corey Brown. Though Nooresh has been with us for only a week, he has already impressed observers with his great work ethic at trackwork, riding not only for Patrick Shaw (Majestic Moments’ trainer) but also for eight-time Singapore champion trainer Laurie Laxon, which can only bode well for his future here at Kranji. Besides, Nooresh told me Laurie has already booked him for at least one ride this week. The other thing that also ticked a box for him was his polish during the live post-race TV interview after he won. He was very articulate and professional in his delivery and reading of the race. Nobody knew Nooresh before, but I can assure you his phone will be ringing off the hook very soon. »
