It’s too late. The devil is on its rampage within a particular island (in a galaxy not so far away) circulating above the heads of our fathers, mothers, wives, sons and daughters and other next of kin. Many lives have been lost and more are going to be lost.
It’s too late. We are being dictated by a bunch of assassins oblivious to the health and livelihoods of the people who has for too long condoned the election of some low-lifes to the highest positions for public office. That the level of decision-making is grossly inadequate to save people’s lives has hit us like a brick in the face and will hit the survivors again and again with more tragedies.
It’s too late. Because of our loss of values and more importantly because of our lust for King Money, we have crumbled our own defenses to give the devil a field day. Days are going to become weeks and weeks are going to become months before we emerge of this tragedy. They would have you believe that tourism is a necessity and that a sacrifice is required for this. Are they exposed themselves? Why should people sitting at the lower levels of the food chain of capitalism have to be sacrificed for the pockets of those at the top to be filled again? This is ‘murder’ in broad daylight notwithstanding the spin doctoring which want you to believe that tourism has nothing to do with the situation.
It’s too late. But those who are grieving and suffering should know that the decision to open borders is the MAIN reason for this situation. Borders were opened when the country was not ready or prepared despite having had 18 months to develop a sound strategy. But then feeding caviar to donkeys was never known to transform them into thoroughbreds.
It’s too late. As a population we have been educated as fools by fools through a rotten education system which breeds incivilities as if it is one of its main objectives. Then why be surprised by the astounding behaviour of people during such dire hours? After all, people were dancing while the Titanic was sinking.
It’s too late. Those with a discerning eye know how to recognise beggars draped in a shiny outfit but they are far too few in this land. For far too long, the health system has been allowed to spiral down in mediocrity to the point that the rot has spread everywhere. It was holding together through the common interest of those ruling the roost to coalesce bits and pieces together and to engage into shameless window-dressing. Now that the smokescreen has dissipated, all you can do is to stare at the consequences of mediocrity and pray to God that you do not have to go through this system.
It’s too late. The ruling system of this allegedly democratic nation, be it the judiciary, the executive or the legislative have been feeding on the legacy left by colonial powers but have been far too reluctant to engage into democratic reform and/or to modernise the system so as to provide the population with an enlightened and progressive governance able to answer the call in times of trouble. Instead, we have a paralysed system where laws are used to restrict people’s rights and to maintain the status-quo of power grabbing by a select few. Then why cry now when you have allowed yourself to be trampled continuously?
It’s too late. Courage is not learned from cowards or from those who lack virtue. But we chose to put those types of people at the head of our democracy and they are having the time of their lives wreaking havoc on ours. We will suffer and die because as a nation, we have tolerated that some sinister ministers govern us.
It’s too late. Because we failed to recognise that a more dangerous virus than COVID-19 has been killing us for a very long time in the form of some abhorrent sinister ministers be it on the road, in hospitals, in police stations or as it seems to have been the case since 2020 by violent abduction. That the COVID-19 has provided eyesight to the previously blind of the level of putrefaction that some sinister ministers carry with them is just to add insult to injury while they die. We have been their prey for long and the devil is never short of irony.
It’s too late. Because as you lie in your bed gasping for the very oxygen that you thought was your basic human right, you won’t even have the force to raise an accusatory finger towards your ‘murderers’ or for your voice to be heard, and so a next prey will be found. Should you be accused of something, it would not and should not be about having been imprudent. Instead, it should be about having given the right to some to cut your throat because you were incredulous enough to believe this could happen to others but not to you.
