Commentant cette alliance stratégique avec l’Ahrim, Joseph Bosco, Managing Director et Chief Executive Officer du GBOT, a laissé entendre que « the first international multi-asset exchange from Mauritius and the only one facilitating trade in currency futures, GBOT aims to proactively reach out to the various economic sectors with exposure to currency market volatility. The hospitality sector has receivables in foreign currency while operational expenses are largely in Mauritian Rupee and USD hence exposing the sector to currency price fluctuations. We wish to help the Mauritian hospitality sector with our currency futures contracts which are created to meet such risk mitigation needs. We are happy to contribute in our own small way to the development of tourism in Mauritius. »
Joseph Bosco explique que le GBOT s’efforce d’identifier d’autres secteurs économiques à Maurice et en Afrique « with similar exposure to market volatility and empower them to devise strategies to safeguard against commodity price volatility and currency market fluctuations. The cumulative effect of this initiative across economic sectors will effectively contribute to enhance the pace of growth of Mauritius and Africa ».
Patrice Legris, le directeur général de l’Ahrim, qui a commenté sur le développement, a soutenu que « the alliance will empower the hospitality sector with a means to ensure that volatile currency markets do not erode the earnings. Apart from Europe, we are also seeing a lot of tourists as well as business visitors’s inflow into Mauritius from emerging markets such as India, Russia and China. Also, the potential of Africa could be boosted in future. We thus look forward to seeing currency futures contracts of these nations being traded on GBOT to enable our hospitality sector mitigate risks arising from receivables in these currencies. The financial benefits of mitigating risks on GBOT’s exchange platform can be passed on to our consumers. The alliance is significant in enhancing the prospects of Mauritius as a world leading tourist destination ».
