It is the time to have your say

on the appointed day.

For some the clear choice

will be obvious,

for some invidious,

an uneasy Hobson’s,

for the pragmatist an opportunity,

for the idealist a quandary.

It may be déjà vu all over again,

the same old wine

in new bottle as it were,

but there is that special offer

which is hard to resist

with the added seductive zest,

not forgetting the promises

in beguiling guises

from silvered tongues and

in honeyed words delivered.

There are interests, short- term

or at best medium term

unquestionably at stake,

while the long-term can take

care of itself if it lasts the time

fixed, until it is the turn

of another dispensation.
