Après l’expulsion des trois députées du MMM, Karen Foo Kune Bacha, Joanna Bérenger et Arianne Navarre-Marie, ce matin à l’Assemblée nationale pour avoir lancé « you are being unfair » et « c’est de la dictature » en direction du Speaker Sooroojdev Phookeer, c’est à la reprise des travaux parlementaires aux alentours de 21h30 que le Premier ministre adjoint, Steven Obeegadoo, a présenté des motions de suspension contre les trois députés.
En effet, lors de la reprise des débats sur le budget 2022-2023 ce soir, le Speaker a rendu son ruling sur le point of order du député Reza Uteem qui interrogeait le Speaker sur le fait qu’il a nommé les députées expulsées alors que la séance avait déjà été suspendue et que le parlement « was not sitting ».
Ainsi, il a déclaré : « In this regard, I refer the Honourable Member to Standing Order 2 of the Standing Orders and Rules of the National Assembly wherein the word “Sitting” is defined as meaning to be a period during which the Assembly is sitting continuously without adjournment, and includes any period during which the Assembly is in committee »
Fait notable, le Speaker a ensuite néanmoins « nommé » officiellement les trois députées l’une après l’autre pour « disregarding the authority of the Chair » :
« Honourable Members, following the incidents which occurred earlier today, pursuant to the provisions of Standing Order 48, I am naming the Honourable Second Member for Beau Bassin and Petite Rivière (Mrs Foo Kune-Bacha) for disregarding the authority of the Chair. »
« Honourable Members, following the incidents which occurred earlier today, pursuant to the provisions of Standing Order 48, I am naming the Honourable First Member for Vacoas and Floréal (Ms. Joanna Bérenger) for disregarding the authority of the Chair. »
« Honourable Members, following the incidents which occurred earlier today, pursuant to the provisions of Standing Order 48, I am naming the Honourable Fourth Member for Grand River North West and Port Louis West (Mrs Arianne Navarre-Marie) for disregarding the authority of the Chair. »
Les trois ruling du Speaker ont finalement été soutenus par le Premier ministre adjoint, Steven Obeegadoo, qui a présenté des motions pour demander la suspension des trois députées pour la séance d’aujourd’hui et de celle de demain à moins que des excuses ne soient remises à la Chambre.
