Gates of wrath

Behind innocuous-looking gates is an ogre,
the Cerberus from hell,
where both barks and bites
are met with fiery ire,
in the emitting of the most toxic bile,
drawing near being at expected risks,
but fawning and obsequiousness
can confer some immunity,
the whiteness of graces
against the darkness of malignity;
if there were to be Hades
on the fair face of this earth
there it will chameleonically lie,
while for mercy do not hold your breath.
