Droits Humains Ocean-Indien (DIS-MOI) a envoyé une lettre au bureau du DPP, ce lundi 11 mai, réclamant l’ouverture d’une enquête judiciare afin de connaître les causes exactes du décès de trois détenus, tous morts de manière suspecte.
Il s’agit de Michael Louise, mort à la prison de Beau-Bassin le 20 mars 2020, Jean Alain Auguste, mort à la prison de Melrose le 29 avril 2020, et Caël Permes retrouvé mort dans sa celulle à la prison de Beau Bassin le 5 mai.
Un extrait de la lettre :
« In the circumstances we would humbly invite you to use the powers entrusted to you by
section 111 of the District and Intermediate Courts (Criminal Jurisdiction) Act 1888:
Inquiry into violent or suspicious death
1. (1) …the Director of Public Prosecutions may (whether before or after
receiving from the Magistrate the reports referred to) require the
Magistrate to hold an inquiry into the cause of the death and
circumstances connected with it, and thereupon the Magistrate shall
hold such inquiry and shall proceed to take the depositions of those
who know the facts and circumstances of the case. »
