The time of judgement is fast approaching!

When I learned, days ago through the media that Jeff Bezos, reportedly the richest man on Earth, had donated ten billion dollars (!) from his massive fortune to a special fund to address, from a human standpoint, humanity’s greatest ever challenge that ‘climate change’ represents, it was, as it were, the trigger that, finally, prompted me to write these few lines which had been a pressing urge for quite some time amid the sea of literature on this complex issue. But I had managed, so far, to keep it at bay.

There is hardly any need to add any further comment on the issue, in spite of a few in a position of command who prefer to be sceptical, to hide their unwillingness to move away from their comfort zone or accept certain sacrifices to alter modes of living that appropriate measures, according to scientists, will inevitably entail.

On the other hand, there is need to hail the genuine and relentless efforts, worldwide, of people from different walks of life, really committed to offer their services and abilities to tackle this ‘monster’ that has already, in different parts of the world, demonstrated the havoc it can create, and which some say even threaten the existence of life on the planet. While, unfortunately, at the same time, many, to be ‘in’ only pay lip service to the issue, as is the case locally where plastic bags litter the environment in spite of being banned.

But my point, through this short note, is not to add anything new to the already raging debate, or to indulge into any sort of polemic with anyone, but to invite attention to a more crucial issue the overwhelming majority of humanity manifestly ignores. It lies in a simple sentence in the last book of the Holy Bible, which reads as follows: ‘But the nations became wrathful, and your own wrath came, and the appointed time came for the dead to be judged and to reward your slaves the prophets and the holy ones and those fearing your name the small and the great, and to bring to ruin those ruining the Earth’. (Revelation chapter11, verse 18).

Put simply, this prophecy – and Bible prophecies are infallible – penned by the Apostle John nearly two thousand years ago in Greek but today translated in more than 2,200 languages and dialects, means that God will intervene before humans destroy the Earth irreversibly and restore its ability to sustain quality life forever. This said not to pour cold water on the genuine efforts of many to save our planet, but to invite attention where the real solution to our manifold ills lies. And in the eyes of the Creator man is ruining the earth in many more ways that his activities relating to consequences that trigger climate change.

Coronavirus, possibly the spark to trigger a larger explosion, has already raised fears worldwide, but the worst is still to come as we inexorably move on to face the * ‘Great Tribulation’.

*I’ll be back at the right time!
