There was a time in history where women just died young for no reason, then science and people’s voices identified Breast Cancer as a major cause of death in women from 20 to 60 years of age. Pink Month (October 1-31) is the time of the year where we can all be part of saving lives by actively supporting Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

Our admiration, support and love go out to the sufferers, and survivors, plus we acknowledge the amazing work of their families who are also suffering.

According to the World Health Organization (WHO), there were 2.3 million women diagnosed with breast cancer and 685 000 deaths globally last year while there were 7.8 million women alive who were diagnosed with breast cancer in the past 5 years.

It is comforting to know that if the screening is done early on, the patient has the necessary treatments to get through the disease. Breast cancer treatment can be extremely effective, attaining survival probabilities of 90% or higher.

For months, Covid-19 put many areas of breast cancer on pause whereby women have missed vital breast screening.

At ELCA, we are raising awareness on the subject matter and we encouraged our employees to volunteer towards this noble cause to make sure people affected by breast cancer know we are here for them.

I am pleased to announce that we are encouraging and supporting Breast Cancer screening in all ELCA locations. The screening session in Mauritius, with the collaboration of NGO Link to Life, was held on October 13th in Ebène.

Give, talk, and learn, but most of all, let’s fight breast cancer together!
