Meurtre de George Floyd : Le policier Derek Chauvin déclaré coupable

Le policier blanc Derek Chauvin a été déclaré mardi coupable du meurtre de l’Afro-Américain George Floyd, à l’issue d’un procès concluant une retentissante affaire qui a profondément marqué l’Amérique en illustrant les divisions raciales dans le pays.

Les 12 jurés qui délibéraient depuis lundi à Minneapolis ont déclaré Derek Chauvin coupable des trois chefs d’accusation pour lesquels il comparaissait. Le policier, menotté, a été immédiatement écroué. L’annonce du verdict a suscité une explosion de joie devant le tribunal.

L’avocat de la famille de George Floyd a salué le verdict du jury, comme un « tournant dans l’Histoire ».

« Coupable! Une justice obtenue dans la douleur a finalement été accordée à la famille de George Floyd. Ce verdict est un tournant dans l’Histoire », a réagi l’avocat Ben Crump.
