« We, in the Komite Diego, call on Pravind Jugnauth to “resezi li”, and begin to realize that his lack of political principled is just not acceptable. On the Chagos issue, he must withdraw this unethical offer of negotiations when a matter is before the UN Court. And as for looking for blood money, he should rescind his call for a US-Mauritius lease arrangement », soulignent les membres du Komité Diego dans un appel au gouvernement en vue de ne pas porter préjudice aux démarches initiées auprès de la Cour internationale de justice de La Haye avec le vote des Nations unies du 22 juin dernier.
Le Komité Diego ne peut dissimuler sa déception devant la teneur de l’intervention de Pravind Jugnauth aux Nations unies car « it seemed that Mauritius, having assured itself of the principled support of 94 States, and calling for further principled support, would, for once, take the high moral ground on a question over which it is so easy to take the high moral ground ». Et d’ajouter : « Until Pravind Jugnauth went and messed it up. »
« The question of Chagos, including Diego Garcia, after the vote at the UN on 22 June, 2017, is firmly before the ICJ. So, how on earth can Pravind Jugnauth now stand there three months minus one day later, and appeal to the USA to negotiate directly with Mauritius ? The matter is before the Court. It just makes no sense. Unless Pravind Jugnauth is offering to sell out, boots and all. Does he want to go down in history this way ? Why can he not just mobilize support around the Court Case ? Why act with so much obsequiousness ?
« The Prime Ministre went further. He said that he is, in the name of the Mauritian State, considering a long-term lease with the USA for Diego Garcia, where the USA’s military base is. But the matter is before the Court ? What kind of a cupidity is this, to go looking for rent money when all those States have given their principled support, in a battle against the Goliaths of the world. And as for Pravind Jugnauth doing this, at the very moment that President Donald Trump is terrifying everyone sensible in the world with his threats of “destruction” of another UN member State, i.e. North Korea », poursuit le porte-parole en s’insurgeant contre le fait que « Pravind Jugnauth is prepared to use the African Union and all the other States that have supported Mauritius, just to pretend that he can, in the name of Mauritius, now bargain with the USA, behind the back of the USA’s best friend, Britain ? What kind of diplomacy is that ? And so, Pravind Jugnauth is prepared to use the principled stand of so many countries just to get a bit of lease money from the USA ? »
« Pravind Jugnauth is going against the grain of history, and even against the Mauritian State’s own stands : Mauritius has rightly signed up to the new UN Treaty against Cluster Bombs. How can Mauritius then lease out part of the territory (over which it has not yet even assured its sovereignty) to a war-monger State like the USA ? Similarly, Mauritius has rightly signed up to the even newer Treaty to Dismantle ALL Nuclear Weapons. Why does Pravind Jugnauth go against the very Treaty his own Government has adhered to ?
