Marrakesh is located some seven hours` drive from Fez. It was for centuries the capital of Morocco and is the second imperial city of the Kingdom and reckoned as the « Pearl of the South. » It was for a long time famous as a stop for caravans bringing exotic goods from as far as Timbuktoo in West Africa and the East and from where it was taken to Europe via the Mediterranean Sea to be sold in Europe.
