A Mauritian they say
But Who are we
What really defines
Our Identity?
From Lands afar
We came to seek
A life of better
Not for the meek
The Construction Phase
Was Underway
A ‘Culture in Progress’
Or so they say
Fast forward the years
To Twenty-Four
What is this Culture
That we all adore?
Our warmth of Heart
Oh so duly revered
By Tourists and Folks
Having come to beheard
The languages we speak
Surely add to the fun
Yet we are jack of all tongues
But master of none
Others say our humour
Would trump them all
Our laughter and guile
A sure spectacle
But arguably the one
That dwarfs all the rest
Is our right to define
Our own future – the best
When for any one reason
This comes under attack
We will not take a back seat
Or cut any slack
‘Lepep Admirab’’ they say,
But do not be misled
Admirab does not mean to
Shy away from one’s stead
Armed with a pen
Sometimes even two
They came and they went
Unphased by the queue
The results were quite damning
For all those to see
One should never toy
With our democracy
As our Country stands up
And Challenges abound
Some traits will never turn up
In the ‘Lost and Found’’
These traits have made us
Who we are today
And will continue to
Guide Us – Come what may.
As Prosper layed out in
Our dearest Motherland
In Peace, Justice and Liberty
We will stand.
