Peace-making

The dove of docility

from its irenic demesne

shows up unfailingly,

ruffled feathers to smooth,

rabid rage to appease,

hurts to reckon, wounds heal;

on this blessed isle,

land of the regal kestrel,

and the once dodo, benign

to a fault, nature accepting

the vicissitudes, the vagaries

of inauspicious times,

in humanity to inculcate

the virtue of forbearance

and tolerance,

for the lovingly woven

tapestry of harmony

not to be irately asunder torn,

but to exercise due care

of its delicate lineaments;

not for nothing  has it been

averred that:

‘blessed are the peacemakers’,

not just from the pulpit heard

but in deeds exemplified.
